Elara—a recluse and powerhouse known as the "God-Hunter," as well as a descendant of the God of Prophecy—returns to Thebes to reclaim her father's inheritance. She enters into a marriage of convenience with Lysander, the heir to the God of Wine, who is reputed to be the city's most handsome yet most useless man. Initially disdainful of this strategic union and prone to testing her, Lysander finds himself captivated as he witnesses Elara’s terrifying combat prowess day after day; he eventually falls hard for her after being fiercely and boldly defended by her time and again. Together, the couple uses the Gem of True Sight at their wedding ceremony to expose the wicked stepmother’s crime of deicide. They then storm the husband's family estate, ruthlessly crushing his biased father—who favors sons over daughters—along with the scheming stepmother and the illegitimate half-brother.
