The black-haired amnesiac Cael is rescued from a snow valley by Elara, daughter of the Silver Rose nobility. He is covered in wounds, with iron chains hanging from his wrists, yet he bears the blood of the Ember Dragon. When the golden-haired false king Dorian seeks to execute him on charges of being an escaped slave, Cael awakens draconic flame and reveals himself as the true royal heir who was overthrown by conspiracy. Dorian, colluding with the high priest Malachar, uses forbidden power to corrupt and transform himself; Elara breaks with her family and stands on the side of truth. In the end, Cael and Elara reclaim the throne, but they do not wear the crown that symbolized the old covenant. Instead, they melt it down and forge it into twin seals of equal standing—one gold, one silver—proclaiming that the throne should be a shield for the people, not an instrument of oppression. Together, they rewrite the ancient curse and usher in a new era of co-rule between dragon-blooded and mortals.
