Cupid, a divorce registrar who can see fate threads, specializes in cutting those that shouldn’t exist. Venus, a dating-site CEO, is deceived by her fiancé—Cupid helps her see the truth and sever the toxic tie. The elder Matchmaker, discontent with Cupid’s “cutting,” weaves a new web that feeds on the “marks” left by those who break threads. Venus and Xiao Qi (the Matchmaker’s apprentice) join Cupid; they learn to either “tie broken threads back to themselves” or “re-knot them,” no longer fueling the web. The Matchmaker eventually ties a red thread onto himself and stops weaving. Core: threads are neither right nor wrong—cutting and tying are both choices. Some need to be untied; some need to be re-knotted. The freest thread is the one tied to yourself.
