In New Chicago, Adrian—scion of a Mafia family—was ambushed by his sworn enemies, the Claverty family. Eve, an investigative journalist conducting an undercover probe into Adrian, unexpectedly saved him after he was critically wounded in the attack; Adrian fell for her at first sight. Knowing that the Claverty family would resort to extreme measures against Eve if the assassination attempt were exposed—yet lacking the knack for expressing his feelings—Adrian used the pretext of offering protection to forcibly "confine" her at his lakeside estate, boldly declaring, "I’ll make you fall in love with me in the next ten days."
