In a post-apocalyptic wasteland, the girl Ellie is bitten but miraculously remains unaffected. Jack breaks the town's strict laws to help her escape. An experiment reveals that her blood can calm the infected—she is immune. The two are relentlessly pursued, encountering the Watchers and the Reapers' Gang. In order to protect her, Jack is forced to kill. A battle at the library exposes their secret, and various factions now covet Ellie. Rumors swirl that a mysterious group called "Dawn" is working on a cure, but what awaits them may not be hope.
