Human college student Tasha has her consciousness transferred into the body of a golden dragon-bird. She hides among her kind on the alien Kmarri civilization for seven years. Wounded in a battle against their natural predators, the Sikras, she is taken back and cared for by the guard Tauren.
A cross-species bond forms between them. After their secret nearly comes to light, they stand side by side to fight the villain Draven. They eventually rally an army to besiege the Queen Sikra’s lair. Tasha wins the final showdown using her own venom. The dragon-bird race gains official status as the planet’s lawful guardians, and Tasha stays with Tauren, finding her true home at last.
