Ronan Tideborn, a fish butcher abandoned by his Sea Lord father for bearing no Tide Mark, enters Atlantis with half a cracked conch pendant to find his mother. He saves his sister Veya, and his mother Eshara recognizes him, but his father Drogan refuses to acknowledge him to protect family honor. Ronan defeats Bloodreef heir Karg with his butcher axe, and the Seven Seas Champion Torren pledges loyalty, revealing Ronan as the true heirto the Heart of the Ocean. The true villain Vorak kidnaps Eshara, plotting to seize the Ocean Throne with the Black Tide curse. Ronan rebuilds his Tide bloodline, creates the Ninth Tide "Tidebreaker," defeats Vorak, and rescues his mother. Drogan dies shielding his wife, earning a final "father" from Ronan. Ronan returns the Pearl Seals, rewrites Ocean Law to open the Seven Seas Trial to the markless, and accepts the Ocean Crown-becoming the first king who stands before the storm for the weak.
