I told farmers to sell all their sugar oranges, but they called me a price-gouger.

EP 1 · SodaReels

Lu Chuan, the male lead, is a veteran deeply rooted in the fruit supply chain. Drawing on years of industry experience, he forecasts risks for sugar oranges: cold waves and rainy weather before the holidays, paired with insufficient warehousing and transport capacity, will trigger a sharp collective price drop. He returns to his hometown out of goodwill, urging all citrus farmers in Juling Village to sell off their stock at low prices ahead of the holidays to secure cash flow and avoid losses from unsold fruit. However, Xu Wei, the female lead who came back to run live-stream sales, aims to monopolize fruit supplies and earn profit from price gaps. She spreads slanderous rumors in her live streams, falsely claiming Lu Chuan deliberately suppressed prices to make immoral profits by exploiting farmers. Deceived by her false promises of high post-holiday prices, all villagers fall for her lies. They collectively reject Lu Chuan’s advice to clear inventory, stubbornly hoard their oranges, and hold out for higher prices after the holidays. Show more
